4.4 twin-turbo V8 · F10 M5, F12 F13 F06 M6, F90 M5, M8, X5 M, X6 M
This is the platform that created Velocity Tuning. Our own F10 M5 reached 1,000 BHP in 2018, with 214 mph on timing gear and 220 mph on the in-car display, and over 1,000 F10 M5s have since been mapped by us worldwide.
The S63 comes in two main forms. The S63TU in the F10 M5 and F12, F13 and F06 M6 uses a 7-speed DCT. The S63T4 in the F90 M5, M8, X5 M and X6 M moves to an 8-speed automatic and intelligent xDrive, turning the F10's limited traction on its head.

F90 M5 100-200 km/h: how each stage compares
The bars run in real time. Stock and VT700 are Draggy runs. The other two are typical results. Times are shown as a range, allowing up to 0.2 seconds for conditions on the day.
F90 M5 on the dyno
Peak figures from our 4WD dyno, with the Draggy 100-200 km/h time where we have one.
Drag across the chart to read any rpm. Thick lines are power, thin lines are torque. Traced from the original graphs in The proof below; peak figures are exactly as measured.

Real cars
Our F10 M5
Our own F10 reached 1,000 BHP in 2018, with 214 mph on timing gear and 220 mph on the in-car display. Beyond Stage 2 the clutch is the weakest link. With an uprated clutch and methanol, well over 800 BHP is possible, and hybrid turbos pass 900 BHP, at which point uprated rods are needed.
Our F90 M5
Used regularly at Santa Pod, Terminal Velocity and the Nurburgring. We spent months developing it, with thousands of miles of datalogging and many days on our dyno.
Service guide
F10 M5 and F12 M6: servicing
- Engine oil every 5,000 miles or once a year, and after track or race events. We recommend 5W-40 and a genuine filter. It takes 8.5 litres; buy 10 so you have a top-up.
- Gearbox oil every 50,000 miles or 5 years, BMW or Motul DCT fluid.
- Diff oil every 10,000 miles or two years, 75W-140, 1.1 litres.
- Spark plugs every 15,000 miles or two years, gapped at 0.022 inch unless on a hybrid turbo or methanol setup.
- Coil packs every 25,000 miles or 3 years.
- Panel filters every 10,000 miles or two years. Avoid oiled filters, which contaminate the MAF sensors and cause misfires, and check the MAF sensors whenever you change a filter.
- Injectors aren't a service item, and fitting them isn't a DIY job: it needs a removal tool and coding, on a 200 bar fuel system.
F10 M5 and F12 M6: looking after the car
- Start the car, idle for 20 to 30 seconds, then drive gently until the oil reaches about 80 C. Oil pressure stays higher and everything warms faster than when idling.
- Full throttle at low rpm stresses the rods and clutch. Below 3,000 rpm, drop a gear first. We go to full power from 4,000 rpm.
- Never rev hard when parked and cold, and never hold it on the limiter when parked.
- When driving hard, use 3 bars on the gearbox setting (D3 or S3). Lower modes put less pressure on the clutch and it wears faster.
- On stock turbos, short shift at 6,500 rpm for the best speed and power, and don't go past 7,000.
- Always use 99 RON fuel. Most stations' premium fuel is only 97 RON.
- Brakes: OEM discs and genuine pads for the road. For track use keep OEM at the rear and fit Pagid RS29 at the front.
- Tyres: we use Michelin 4S, 265 front and 305 rear. Cold pressures of 34 psi front and 30 psi rear help traction.

Questions and myths
Does cold start help the engine?
No. It's there to warm the catalytic converters quickly for emissions. It's arguably bad for engine health, and on a decatted car only the noise is left.
Should I fit a 90 C thermostat?
Coolant and oil temperatures are controlled by the engine ECUs. Sport Plus, for example, asks for a lower temperature and gets it quickly.
Is 10W-50 oil better?
The engine wasn't designed for oil that thick, and these engines already have a reputation for bearing wear. We wouldn't use it unless the engine was built with its specs checked to suit.
Can I return the car to stock to keep the warranty?
A remap stays detectable by BMW even after flashing back, so only tune your car if you aren't keeping the warranty.
Are your maps really custom?
Yes. They're written in-house by Tommy, you decide how aggressive the tune is, and you can see the datalogging and adjustments while you visit.
