Terms & conditions
These terms apply to everything you buy from us: parts from our shop, VT calibrations, remote tuning, workshop bookings and builds. Please read them before you order. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
1. About us
Velocity Tuning is the trading name of Velocity Tuning Essex Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11398799). Registered office: Newbridge Farm, Fox Street, Ardleigh, CO7 7PN. Workshop: Newbridge Farm, Foxstreet, Colchester, CO7 7PN.
Contact us on 01206 645064 or info@velocitytuning.uk, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 to 18:00.
In these terms, "you" means the person placing the order. A "consumer" is someone buying for personal use rather than for a business.
2. Orders and prices
- Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT. Delivery, where it applies, is shown before you pay.
- We charge the same price wherever you are. Orders delivered outside the UK may attract import duty, taxes or handling fees in your country, which you pay.
- Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we confirm it by email, or when we dispatch the item or carry out the work, whichever is first.
- If a price or description on our site is clearly wrong, we'll contact you before going ahead. If you don't want to continue at the correct price, we'll cancel and refund you in full.
- Power figures are the gains we expect from a healthy car on the stated fuel. Every car is different, so they are a guide, not a guarantee.
3. Delivery and collection
- We'll give you an estimated dispatch time. If we can't deliver within 30 days, or a date we've agreed with you, you can cancel and receive a full refund.
- Items are our responsibility until they are delivered to you or you collect them.
- Please check your parcel when it arrives and tell us within 48 hours if anything is damaged or missing. That lets us claim from the courier quickly. It doesn't reduce your legal rights if you tell us later.
- Collection orders can be picked up from the workshop during opening hours once we've told you they are ready.
4. Cancelling an online order
If you are a consumer and you buy from us online, by phone or by email, you have a legal right to change your mind.
- How long you have: 14 days from the day after your item is delivered. For services, it's 14 days from the day after your booking is made. Tell us by email at info@velocitytuning.uk with your name and order number.
- Returning the item: send it back within 14 days of telling us, to the workshop address above. Return postage is your cost. Please use a tracked, insured service and pack the item carefully, because it is your responsibility until it reaches us.
- Your refund: we refund the price and the standard delivery charge, using the payment method you used, within 14 days of receiving the item back or of you showing us proof you've sent it, whichever is first.
- Handling and fitting: you may handle an item as you would in a shop, to check what it is and that it is right. If it has been used, fitted, connected to a car or handled beyond that, we will reduce your refund by the loss in its value. That can be up to the full price, for example where a part has been fitted and shows bolt marks, soot, scratches or missing parts.
- Sealed items: some items, such as OBD flashing adapters, are sealed so you can inspect them without using them. A broken seal shows the item has been used, and the refund is reduced by the loss in value.
- This right doesn't apply to items bought in person at the workshop. For those, our faulty items section still applies.
5. Items you can't cancel
The law says the right to change your mind does not apply to:
- Calibrations, tune files, maps and software licences (including MHD, bootmod3 and 1769), once we've supplied them, sent them or activated them for your car, if you asked us to supply them straight away and accepted that you'd lose the right to cancel.
- Services that have been fully carried out, such as a completed tune or fitting, or the booking work covered by a booking fee, where you asked us to start within the 14 days and accepted that you'd lose the right to cancel once it was done. If you cancel a service part-way through, you pay for the work done up to that point.
- Items made or built to your specification, including built engines, built-to-order kits and custom fabrication.
- Fluids and consumables that have been opened or mixed with other items after delivery, such as fuels, oils and methanol.
6. Faulty items
As a consumer, you're entitled to goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and to services carried out with reasonable care and skill. If something we've supplied isn't right:
- Contact us first, and please don't remove or alter the item, or have it worked on elsewhere, before we've had the chance to look at it. We may ask you to return it, or bring the car in, so we can inspect it.
- Within 30 days of delivery, you can reject a faulty item for a full refund. After that, we'll repair or replace it first, and if that doesn't put it right, you can have a refund, which may be reduced to reflect the use you've had.
- For services, we'll redo the work, or if that isn't possible, give you an appropriate refund.
- Normal wear and tear, damage from fitting by someone other than us, accidents, misuse, use outside the item's intended purpose, or later modification are not faults.
7. Workshop bookings and booking fees
Workshop appointments are secured with a booking fee. When you arrive for your appointment, it comes off your bill, so you don't pay it on top of the job. It also pays for the work we do as soon as your job is booked. That includes reserving the workshop time and dyno for your car (and turning away other work for that slot), planning the job, and preparing parts and calibrations.
- The booking fee is non-refundable. When you book, you ask us to start that work straight away and accept that, because it's done at the point of booking, the fee can't be refunded if you cancel or don't attend.
- Online bookings are confirmed by us: when you book and pay online, the time you choose is held for you while we check the booking. We confirm it by text and email. If we can't take the job at that time, we'll offer you another date, and if none suits you, we'll refund what you paid for the booking.
- Cars that don't meet our requirements: before we start, we check your car is in a fit state for the work booked, for example free of faults, leaks or warning lights, and with any parts the job needs already fitted. If it isn't and we can't go ahead, we charge for workshop diagnostics and the vehicle check at our labour rate of £120 an hour: £120 for the first hour, then £120 for each further hour or part of an hour. Your booking fee comes off this charge, so with a £100 booking fee the first hour costs you £20 more.
- Changing your appointment: if you need to move it, call us on 01206 645064 and we'll do our best to find another date.
- Cancellations and missed appointments: if you cancel or don't attend, the booking fee is kept and a new booking fee is needed to book again.
- If we have to move or cancel your appointment, we'll offer you a new date. If none suits you, we'll refund the booking fee.
- Parts bought for your job follow the rules in sections 4 to 6. Parts made or ordered to your specification can't be returned.
8. VT calibrations and tuning
- Your car's condition: tuning asks more of an engine, gearbox and drivetrain. Your car must be well maintained, serviced on time and free of faults before we tune it. Please tell us about any known problems, previous modifications or warning lights when you book.
- Our checks: before and during tuning, we check fault codes and monitor how the car runs. This is not a full mechanical inspection and can't reveal every worn or failing component. A separate health check is available if you'd like one.
- Wear and failure: parts that wear, such as turbos, injectors, ignition coils, spark plugs, clutches, sensors and boost pipes, can fail sooner on a modified car, and a weakness that already exists may show itself. We're not responsible for that unless it is caused by a fault in our work.
- Fuel: run the fuel your calibration was written for (99 RON, or the ethanol blend for flex fuel). Using the wrong fuel can damage the engine.
- Results: power, torque and economy depend on the car's age, condition, fuel, weather and how it's driven, so figures are approximate. We don't test cars above the speed limit on public roads.
- Warranty and insurance: tuning can affect your manufacturer's warranty. You must tell your insurer about any modifications. If you're unsure how a change affects your car's legality or cover, please take independent advice.
9. Remote tuning and licences
- Remote tuning is tune only. Any parts your package needs must already be fitted, and your ECU must already be unlocked. Unlocks are done in-house.
- MHD, bootmod3 and 1769 licences are supplied by their makers. They are tied to your car's VIN, their own terms apply, and once a licence has been issued or activated it can't be cancelled or moved to another car.
- You flash your car yourself. Please follow our instructions and the flashing software's instructions, keep the battery supported by a suitable charger, and don't interrupt a flash. We're not responsible for damage caused by an interrupted or incorrect flash that we didn't carry out.
- We refine your calibration from the datalogs you send us. Please send them as we ask, so we can make sure the car is running safely.
- If a calibration we've supplied doesn't work as it should, contact us and we'll put it right.
10. Track and drag parts
- Some packages and parts, including downpipes, decat pipes and any emissions-related change, are sold for track and drag use only, off the public road. Using them on the road can be illegal, can mean the car fails its MOT and can invalidate your insurance.
- By buying them, you confirm they'll be used for track and drag use only. How you use your car is your responsibility.
- Where a product is road legal, the product page says so.
11. Your car in our care
- Please remove valuables and personal items before you leave your car with us. We aren't responsible for items left in the car, except where loss or damage is caused by our negligence.
- Please switch off any dash camera before you drop off the car. If it's still on, we'll switch it off.
- You authorise us to drive your car on our dyno and, where needed, on the road to test our work. Dyno running puts the car under high load. We'll take reasonable care and stop if we see a problem, and we're responsible for damage caused by our negligence, but not for a component failing because of its condition before it came to us.
- We'll tell you when your car is ready. Payment is due in full before the car is released. If the car isn't collected within 7 days of us telling you it's ready, we may charge a reasonable daily storage fee, which we'll tell you about first.
- We may decline to fit parts you supply yourself. Where we do agree to fit them, our responsibility covers our fitting work, not the part itself.
- Visitors use our premises and car park at their own risk, except where injury, loss or damage is caused by our negligence.
12. VT Unleashed and built-to-order work
- Prices shown in VT Unleashed and for big-power builds are guide prices. We'll confirm the full specification and price in a written quote after your consultation. That quote, and these terms, form the contract.
- Builds are made to your specification, so the right to cancel doesn't apply once work or ordering has started (see section 5). Payment terms are set out in your quote.
- Big-power and competition builds put components under extreme stress. Manufacturer warranties on parts usually exclude competition use, and we'll explain in writing what is and isn't covered before you commit.
13. Our calibrations
Every VT calibration is developed by us and remains our intellectual property. You're licensed to use it on the car it was written for. It may not be copied, read out, resold, shared, reverse engineered or used on another car without our written permission. If you sell the car, the calibration can stay on it.
14. Our responsibility to you
- If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable when the contract was made.
- We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and your statutory rights as a consumer.
- Our parts and services are for private use. If you're a consumer, we're not responsible for business losses such as loss of profit or earnings.
- We're not responsible for the condition your car was in before it reached us, for faults we didn't cause, or for work carried out by anyone else.
- If something goes wrong after we've worked on your car, please contact us first and give us the chance to put it right before anyone else works on it. That helps us resolve it quickly and fairly.
15. Trade customers
If you're buying for a business, including garages and other tuners, the consumer rights in sections 4 to 6 don't apply. Instead:
- Returns are by prior agreement only, for unused items in their original condition, and a 20% restocking fee applies. Special-order and custom items can't be returned.
- Faulty items will be repaired or replaced, or refunded if we can't do either.
- Our total liability is limited to the price paid for the item or service concerned, and we're not responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business or goodwill, or for indirect loss.
16. Complaints and the law
- If you're not happy, please contact us at info@velocitytuning.uk or on 01206 645064. We'll always try to put things right.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
- We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your order are the ones shown here when you placed it.
