All BMW mainly from 2005 have measures to prevent mapping in form of RSA cryptography. This is a way for the ECU to verify the data being flashed into the ECU is from BMW and not modified. For those wanting extra power this needs to be bypassed.
Before the June 2020 ECU's being released, easily obtainable equipment most mapping companies possess was able to bypass this RSA and allow the tuner to modify the data within the ECU quickly and easily by patching ecu within a few minutes.
Bosch and BMW decided to increase security and did a great job at it with only two companies worldwide offering a ECU unlock solution to get around this improved RSA logic. Femto and 1769 Performance are those two companies and although they both offer this unlock there are differences in both options which will be displayed further down.
Femto & 1769 Performance both offer ECU unlocks on June 2020+ cars but there are pros and cons to both methods.
Femto offers a service where your ECU is sent to them and the ECU is unlocked then shipped back this process takes 4-5 days on average and customers usually leave their vehicles with us whilst this is carried out. The option to bring the ECU only to us is also available. This is a service that is tried and tested for many years and compatible with many tuning platforms. Price £1000 - £1100 per ECU
1769 Performance offers a service where we are able to perform a 'same day' unlock in house within around 1 hour. We are the only UK company offering this service on S58, S63 and also offer on B58. With this unlock remote start function from BMW is also able to be enabled as well as M traction on M cars that did not receive from factory. This option works great for those wanting unlock & tuning within a single day.

Can I have my ECU Unlocked remotely?
No all Femto ECU must be brought to us and for 1769 unlock the car must be brought to us

Can BMW wipe my map and unlock?
On a femto unlock it can be relocked by BMW if you do not state to not update. 1769 unlock can not be mistakenly removed by BMW
I have a locked ECU/ Femto Unlocked ECU and want remote start
Without 1769 unlock we are unable to offer remote start
Why does Femto support custom ROM (MHD+/ BM3 Rom) but 1769 does not?
The same data area is involved in custom rom and the unlock. Femto patch the unlock and custom rom during unlock, 1769 do not offer applying the custom rom of these platforms.
I want same day unlock but also interested in flexfuel/ multimap in the future
Development for 1769 supporting flexfuel and multimap is in its final stages and will be released Q4 2025.
I have a full hybrid car (not mild hybrid) and want same day tuning
Currently we do not offer same day unlocks for full hybrids (example: 330e, 545e) For these Femto unlock is still available
